Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage

Our massage therapists have both training and experience in modalities to help improve circulation, relieve tension and stress, and also activate your body’s natural healing ability. Swedish and deep tissue massage therapy are great options to target issues deep beneath the skin, release knots, and help you relax. Couple these techniques with our aroma or hot stone services to enhance your experience, deepen your relaxation, and further improve your results.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a firmer-pressure technique that is best for releasing chronic muscle tension - it focuses on the deepest layers of muscle-tissue, tendons, & fascia (the protective layers surrounding muscles).

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage [MLD] is a unique, gentle type of skin massage technique that promotes lymph to drain out of a limb into an area that drains normally. It is mainly used for lymphoedema often associated with cancer treatments.

In addition to improving lymphatic circulation, MLD also increases blood flow in deep and superficial veins.[1]

There are various techniques for MLD including the Vodder, Földi, Leduc or Casley-Smith methods. The most appropriate techniques, optimal frequency and indications for MLD, as well as the benefits of treatment, should be discussed with your therapist.

MLD is usually performed with the patient in the lying position, unless for lymphoedema of the head and neck. The treatment usually begins and ends with deep diaphragmatic breathing guided by your therapist. The unaffected lymph nodes and region of the body are treated first moving proximal to distal to drain the affected areas. Utilizing gentle pressure in slow and rhythmic movements your therapist will promote variations in interstitial pressure without the use of oils.
